PERICLES: Prince of tyre
Presented by PNC Arts Alive
It starts with an innocent riddle. But the answer is deadly and when Pericles uncovers the terrible truth he flees the land of Antioch and sets in motion an adventure full of love, peril and perseverance that reverberates across three nations. With a troupe of tumbling and swirling circus performers, Shakespeare in Clark Park brings to life Pericles’ windswept tale of shipwrecks, chivalry and family finally found.

A Message from the Artistic Director:
There were moments over the last 18 months when I wasn’t sure we would be able to return to Clark Park, when I wasn’t sure we would return to live theater, when I felt so distant from my fellow man that I forgot what theater was and how to do. Watching Carly and Kaitlin rise above an almost endless string of adversities to bring you this show has restored me.
Pericles has to wait so long to be with his family – his people. But when you leave this play I hope you will feel what I feel: grateful to these artists who have persevered, grateful to Shakespeare (and maybe a friend) for this strange and touching tale, but mostly grateful to each other. We are here. We have suffered and learned and now we come together to celebrate.
This is the hardest week of my year. This is the best week of my year. Thank you for trusting me with this company, West Philly! Enjoy the show. You’ve earned some fun.
