Active fundraiser seeks to make mobile play possible
Shakespeare in Clark Park (SCP) announced today a fundraising campaign to raise $10,000 to accommodate a mobile staging of Everyman, Artistic Director Kittson O’Neill said.
“We wanted a play that spoke to the moment,” she explained. “Everyman is a morality tale that has been adapted over time.”
In April, Kittson announced that for the first time in 12 years, SCP would not provide a summer play. Additionally, the organization paused two other shows known as the Park Plays due to the ongoing pandemic.
“We were broken hearted but felt strongly that we wanted to find some way to come together as community,” she said.
SCP will use the Pageant Wagon, a concept derived from Medieval times, to visit blocks throughout West Philadelphia. Given the porch culture in the neighborhoods, the Pageant Wagon will provide a safe, socially distanced way for the community to enjoy the play.
